Our Hostel on St Nicholas Road in Great Yarmouth was once home to Captain George W. Manby F.R.S. (1765 – 1854). He lived in the Grade II listed part of the building from 1803 to 1814. He invented the mortar and line for saving life from shipwrecks and was the inventor of the first modern fire extinguisher. It is believed that when he lived in the house, he had an uninterrupted view to the sea.

We recently had a blue plaque erected at the Hostel, to commemorate his work and time spent in our building.
