We’re growing our team at Herring House Trust.
We have eight new opportunities to join Herring House Trust and work alongside people experiencing homelessness in Great Yarmouth.
We’re looking for people who can bring experience, transferable skills and a thoughtful approach to this work.
For us, good support starts with relationships. It means taking time to get to know someone, listening to what matters to them and understanding how trauma and life experiences can shape the way people experience the world and the services around them.
It means starting from where someone is, building trust over time and working alongside them without judgement or assumptions about what their next step should be.
You may already work in homelessness or supported housing, or your experience may come from mental health, recovery, social care, voluntary or community services or somewhere else entirely.
5 × Harbour Workers – £25,000
Join the team at The Harbour, a new four-bed supported accommodation service being developed alongside our existing hostel for people moving away from rough sleeping.
This is a practical, relationship-based role providing day-to-day support. You’ll be joining a new service from the beginning, with the opportunity to bring your experience and ideas and contribute to how the service develops.
Support for staff is an important part of The Harbour. You’ll be part of a small team with regular supervision, reflective practice, alongside support from colleagues across HHT.
Average 34 hours per week
One 12-hour day shift, followed by one 12-hour night shift, then three days off.

2 × Link Workers – £27,000
Meet people who are sleeping rough where they are, building relationships across the community and providing consistent support as people move from the street into accommodation.
This is a varied role that will take you across Great Yarmouth, The Harbour and HHT’s wider accommodation services, working alongside people through different stages of their housing and support.
Average 34 hours per week across a rolling rota, including daytime, evening and weekend working.

Community Housing Worker – £25,000
Join our Community Team, working with people living across HHT accommodation and in the wider community.
You’ll support people to sustain their accommodation, develop practical skills and confidence and work towards greater independence and future housing.
This is a varied role combining relationship-based support with the practical side of helping people manage and maintain their home. The role also includes contributing to groups and activities across HHT.
Monday to Friday, with some flexibility around start and finish times and an early finish on Friday.

Could one of these roles be for you?
We’re looking for people who are good at building relationships and understand what trauma-informed support means in practice. People who will take time to listen, get to know someone and try to understand things from their point of view.
You don’t need to know everything. We want people who are curious, willing to learn and able to think about their own practice, particularly when things haven’t gone as planned.
Formal qualifications aren’t essential. Experience matters to us, but that experience might have come from homelessness, mental health, recovery, social care, community work or somewhere else.
HHT is a small organisation and you’ll be part of a team where people know and support each other. You’ll have regular supervision, training and reflective practice, with people around you to talk things through when you need to.
We know this can be demanding work and that having proper time away from it is important. We’ve tried to reflect that in the way we’ve designed the working hours for these roles.
